Emily Sherwill - Printed Textile Design

Inspiration for my textile designs comes from various seaside environments, the people and activities that take place within it. Photography and drawing form the basis of my research, helping me to collect information and imagery relating to landscape, text and figures, from which I then re-interpret ideas and scenes directly onto cloth. Using a wide range of techniques and processes such as felting, stitch, devore and collage allows me to ‘sketch’ onto the surface of fabrics ranging from heavy wool to thin cotton. Scraps of my previously printed fabrics are recycled and reworked onto printed and embellished textiles to create an eclectic and fun assortment of one-off pieces and textiles for interiors.
